CANADA—ONTARIO PARTNERSHIP CREATES JOBS, STIMULATES ECONOMY IN SIMCOE NORTH - Tay, Tiny, Midland, and Penetanguishene

Residents of Tay, Tiny, Midland, and Penetanguishene will benefit from federal and provincial infrastructure funding announced today by Bruce Stanton, M.P. These projects are just a few examples of both governments’ commitment to stimulating the Ontario economy through the creation of jobs in our communities.
 
These projects include

• In Tay, both the federal and provincial governments will provide $2,708,000 for improvements to the Port McNicoll Waste Water Treatment Plant, and $834,572 for the Hogg Valley Road reconstruction.
• In Tiny, each will invest $113,646 for Balm Beach Road improvements, and also $220,000 for the redevelopment of the Lafontaine Pavillion.
• In Midland, the provincial and federal government will provide just over $1.3 million for municipal office expansion and retrofit.
• In Penetanguishene, each government will contribute $125,000 for the Water Tower resurfacing.      
  

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our Government is getting shovels in the ground and flowing money faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs for Ontarians,” said Bruce Stanton, M.P. Simcoe North. “Thanks to the strong relationship between our two governments, we can work together to help Ontario communities and the economy thrive immediately and in the future.”

"These projects are important infrastructure initiatives that will put people to work; stimulate the economy of Simcoe County and produce much needed buildings, roads and wastewater treatment improvements," said Aileen Carroll MPP Barrie.

Mayor Scott Warnock of the Township of Tay, Mayor Jim Downer of the Town of Midland, and Mayor Anita Dubeau of the Town of Penetanguishene joined M.P. Stanton along with several Councillors from the three municipalities to announce the funding this morning at the Port McNicoll wastewater treatment facility.  Each of the Mayors gave brief remarks welcoming these important investments for their communities.
 
These projects are four of 1400 across the province that will break ground thanks to $3.4 billion in joint federal and provincial funding. . The governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects starting in the 2009 construction season.
