Bruce Stanton, M.P. Announces Natural Health Products and Copyright Town Hall Meetings in August

In response to the high level of interest on the subjects of the proposed legislative changes affecting Natural Health Products and Copyright Law, M.P. Bruce Stanton will be hosting a series of town hall meetings later this summer. This will be an opportunity for the public to discuss their questions, concerns and suggestions regarding the recently introduced legislation on Natural Health Products (Bill C-51) and Copyright reform (Bill C-61). Bruce will compile a report of the comments, and present them to the Minister of Health (Natural Health Products) and Minister of Industry (Copyright) for their consideration as Parliament debates this legislation later this fall. Available here Amendments to C-51: Bill C-61 – An Act to Amend the Copyright Act: This enactment amends the Copyright Act in order to (a) update the rights and protections of copyright owners to better address the Internet, in line with international standards; (b) clarify the liability of Internet service providers; (c) permit certain uses for educational and research purposes of Internet and other digital technologies to facilitate technology-enhanced learning, inter-library loans, the delivery of educational material and access to publicly available material on the Internet; (d) permit certain uses of copyright material for private purposes; and (e) amend provisions of the Act relating to photographs to give photographers the same rights as other creators.
